OUR FOREVER HOME

A year ago, we decided to rent a tiny cottage, while our oldest son finished up at his middle school. There was a housing shortage, and we just weren't ready to purchase a home again. Those of you that know us well, know that while trying to find a forever home, we have had a time of it! Terrible neighbors, wrong school zones, inconvenient locations...you name it! At the beginning of this year, we started the search for our perfect home.

We initially made an offer on a smaller, 3 bedroom brick ranch (which my initial post was based on). While under contract, we realized that home just would not work for us. We simply needed more bedrooms, bathrooms, and more space to coexist together in!

Even though we are a family of five and need some space, I will always  prefer a one level home. One level homes, are just so much easier to clean and maintain.  It's easier to keep an eye on my little ones, and keep them out of trouble! Also, I do not enjoy walking up and down stairs to wash and put away laundry(believe it or not, doing laundry is not that much fun to start with)! However, finding a four bedroom/two bath home, all on one level, is not all that easy to come by in our city. They are mostly cape cods, or the fourth bedroom/second bath is in a finished basement.

The market is at an all time high, due to the extreme housing shortage, combined with healthy buyer demand.  We knew to find a home both with the space we needed, and in the location we wanted, that we would have to seriously go up in price range. This was a tough one for me, because I am very frugal by nature. Luckily, we have budgeted our income well over the last decade, in order to accrue the savings to do so. We thankfully found a larger brick ranch, in a great location/neighborhood, that is also conveniently located to schools, restaurants, and shopping. There are four bedrooms and two full baths, which we desperately needed! When this home hit the market, we knew just by looking at the pics, it was going to be the one for us!  This house checked all the boxes, and we were thrilled when our offer was accepted! We closed in exactly 30 days, and moved right in!

Colty will be starting second grade in August, and this move will mean he will have to switch elementary schools. I think I am more nervous about that than he is (especially due to the current Covid-19 pandemic)! We still don't know what the new school year will look like, but I really hope he adjusts quickly, and makes lots of new friends, while staying healthy!

I am so grateful for our new home, and I am confident that this will be the home that we stay in and enjoy for many years to come! We certainly are long overdue!
