Back To School-2023

It's that time of year again! Summer break is over, and children and parents are gearing up for another long school year! I am always excited and sad when school starts, because I know they will have fun and make new friends, yet I also worry (way too much) about their safety, happiness, and general well-being!

First Year of Homeschooling: Our Journey

We have just completed our first full year of homeschooling, and I can hardly believe it! I wanted to share my experience with homeschooling a fourth grader, as well as share our plans for the future.

HOMESCHOOLING: 4TH GRADE SCHEDULE AND CURRICULUM

This is our first year homeschooling, after doing public school from grades k-3.  Colton is currently 9 years old, and he’s in the 4th grade. Because he is used to a public school format, I am taking what is referred to as a "Traditional" approach to homeschooling. Our youngest is 3, and I plan on beginning homeschooling with him as well, once he turns 4-5 years old. For now, we are taking it year by year. My curriculum choices will likely change for next year, or I might decide to switch things up mid-year!

WHY I DECIDED TO HOMESCHOOL

Being a mother in America right now is scarier than ever. School shootings, and active shootings in general, have been on the rise over the last decade. The most recent tragedy occurred at a Texas Elementary School, where nineteen precious babies were viciously robbed of their lives, by a lone active shooter. These children were the same age as my middle child, and the same grade he would be starting next (fourth).  I had considered homeschooling my children, for a few years, but was always scared to take that step. After all, it's a big decision! However, this latest massacre of children,  was the final straw for me.
